Work has started on a new garden for patients and staff outside of the Women’s Centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
The space is being transformed with new planting and seating, turning a once disused area into a pleasant and useful space.
The improvements are being co-funded by The Silver Star Maternity Fund, which is part of Oxford Hospitals Charity and SSNAP which provides extra support for sick newborns and their families.
Maggie Findlay from Silver Star said: “We are so thrilled that this special garden project is now underway. This will be a space sown with care and hope to bring real, lasting support offering staff a moment of peace, and patients a place to heal beyond medicine, surrounded by nature.”
Emily Byrne from SSNAP added: “We are absolutely thrilled about the new garden and the incredible impact it will have for both neonatal and maternity families alike. This peaceful, restorative space will offer a much-needed retreat during some of the most intense and emotional moments of their journey. We’re so proud to be working alongside Silver Star to bring this vision to life.”
Nicholsons Garden Design are working to transform the space and staff will be volunteering their time to help with planting in the coming weeks before the garden is opened this summer.
